Cơm nước xong, thấy mẹ tôi, cả đến kẻ ăn người ở trong nhà đều tiến đưa tôi ra tận bờ sông, nơi thuyền đậu.
After having our meal, my parents, brothers and sisters and even the servants in my family, all saw me off at the riverside where the boat was moored.
Vừa ra khỏi nhà, thì long tôi tự nhiên se lại, buồn rầu vô cùng.
No sooner had I gone out of my house then my heart was wrung with sadness.
Từ thưở nhỏ đến giờ, chỉ quen vui thú ở nhà nay tôi mới cảm thấy cảnh biệt ly lần đầu. Chân bước đi, mặt còn ngoảnh lại; từ cái mái nhà, cái thềm nhà, cái lối đi cho đến bụi cây, đám cỏ, cái gì cũng làm cho tôi quyến luyến, mến yêu khác thường.
From my childhood till now, I have been accustomed to the pleasure of staying home, and this is the first time I have experience parting. I turned back as I was walking: the roof, the corridor, the lane, even the bushes and patches of grass, everything seemed to endear itself to me with an unusual love.
Thuyền đã nhổ sào, ai nấy đều chúc cho tôi được thuận buồm xuôi gió, bình yên mạnh khỏe. Thuyền đã đi xa, mà tôi còn đứng nhìn trở lại, nhìn mãi cho tới lúc không thấy nhà nữa mới thôi. Ôi! Cái cảnh biệt ly sao mà buồn thế! The boatman cast off, everyone wished me a good journey and good health. The boat had gone far away, but I still stood looking back until my house was out of my sight. Alas! How sad the scene of parting was!

7. Phải tuân theo pháp luật 7. We must obey the law      Có pháp luật thì trong nước mới bình yên, nhân dân mới được vui vẻ mà làm ăn.. Pháp luật đặt ra vì lợi ích chung cho mọi người. Nếu không có pháp luật thì không thành xã hội được. Only when the law is enforced can a country be peaceful and its people enjoy their work and life. The law is established for the common benefit. Without law, society cannot be formed.  Nhờ có nhà nước đặt ra pháp luật, đem pháp luật thi hành, phân xử mọi việc, trừng trị những kẻ gian ác, trộm cướp thì tính mạng, của cải và danh dự của chúng ta mới không sợ bị ai xâm phạm đến. Nhờ pháp luật thì việc cày cấy, buôn bán và mở mang đường xá  mới được tốt đẹp; nói tóm lại, nhờ có pháp luật mọi nguwoif mới được yên tâm làm ăn. 20. Đêm đông 20. Winter night Trời rét như cắt. Mưa rả rich. Gió thổi mạnh, cành là chuyển động ào ào. Ở bên ngoài, tối đen như mực. Thực là một cảnh tiêu điều buồn bã.  It is piercingly cold. The rain is falling down continually. The wind is blowing hard, and the leaves are rustling. Outside the house, the night is pitch dark. It is a sad and deserted scene ind eed. Mẹ khâu vá, cha đọc báo, các con học hành hay xum quanh bà để nghe kể chuyện cổ tích. But in this gloomy atmosphere, there are also joys. In a closed house, under a bright lamp; father, mother, grandparents, brothers and sisters are all gath ered together. Mother is busy doing her needlework, father is reading newspapers and the children are learning their lessons or sitting round...
