25. A cottage
Dưới chân đồi đát dỏ có dựng trên nền đát san phẳng cao độ 40 phân, một mái nhà tranh ba gian. Vách thì trát đất bùn, sân đất nện để phơi thóc lúa vào ngày mùa, xung quanh có trồng tre làm hang rào.
At the foot of a red-clayed hill and on a flat leveled ground about 40 centimeters high, a three-apartment cottage is built. The walls are smeared with mud, the yard for drying paddy in harvest is covered with soil rammed down, and around, bamboos are planted to fence off.
Ở gian, giữa, thấy có bày bàn thờ ông bà với các đồ thờ. Gian bên trái dung làm buồng ngủ có kê một chiếc bàn gỗ. Gian bên phải là buồng để chứa đồ đạc, ở một góc ngổn ngang chất những nông cụ và các dần sàng, nong nia. Phía trước nhà có che một tấm phên, ngày chống lên, đêm hạ xuỗng.
In the middle apartment, the altar of ancestors, together wish worshiping objects, is seen. The left apartment is used as a bed. The right apartment is a store-room where equipment and winning baskets are put in disorder. In front of the house, there is a wattle which is propped up in the daytime, and lowered at night.
Ở đầu nhà, trong một gian phụ thuộc biệt lập, người ta chỉ bước một bước vào là đến bếp. Gần bếp là chuồng trâu bò, mùi xú uế bốc lên làm buồn mửa và xa hơn chút nứa, sừng sững một đống rơm. Kế đó là chuồng lợn (heo) với các luống trồng khoai củ.
At the end of the house, in a separately attached apartment, we only take on single step to enter the kitchen. Near the kitchen is the cowshed which sends forth, nauseous smell; and a little farther, there is a high stack of straw. Just nearby is the pigsty, and there are beds of potatoes.
